UCD Dean of the School of Public Affairs Paul Teske gave opening remarks and introduced moderator John Merrow.

The evening’s conversation revolved around the Denver Plan’s goals and strategies. The audience audience picked the panel’s conversation topics from the Plan via keypad polling.

On the panel: Howard Fuller, Distinguished Professor of Education & Director, The Institute for the Transformation of Learning at Marquette University; Lorrie Shepard, Dean of the University of Colorado School of Education; Paul Hill, Director at the Reinventing Public Education at the University of Washington.

The first topic: “Great teachers and principals mean kids do better in school.” Listen to the discussion here.

Second topic: “Focus on school performance. Close poor-performing schools, open new schools.”

The panelists launched into Q & A.

We closed the forum with some final thoughts from the panel on what Denver can do to move its schools in a positive direction.
